Robuck the Termite Detection Dog

Why and how we use the Termite Detection Dog.

Detection dogs are used for;

Australian Quarantine use dogs in airports. Police use dogs to find drugs and money. The medical industry use dogs to try and find cancer. Fire departments use dogs to locate where a fire started.

So why use a termite detection dog in a termite inspection?

In an inspection we can see termite activity but a lot of the time termites do their damage undetected. The odour emitted from termites will pass through the walls where the termites are feeding. Their scent can be detected by Robuck.

How does a termite detection dog work?

Termite detection dogs are trained on a reward system. When they detect the odour of termites at the strongest point they will give an indication, then they are rewarded. Robuck is rewarded with a tennis ball. Everything has an odour, even termites and dogs have incredible noses.

Preparation For Treatment

Here are some handy tips in preparation for a general pest treatment of your property:

  • If possible please have the drive way accessible for working vehicle to park.
  • Have no clothes on the clothes line.
  • Cover anything outside that you value and don’t want sprayed.
  • Close your windows and doors when spraying has commenced.
  • Remove all light objects such as clothes, kids toys and bean bags away from interior walls to expose the skirting boards.
  • Any locked areas please have accessible.
  • Access to the roof void cleared for the technicians ladder.
  • Access to the subfloor requires to have no obstructions.
  • Running water maybe required and you maybe asked to turn power off for roof void safety.
  • If a pet is on the property please remove the food and water bowls.
  • For Hygiene reasons please pick up the dog feces.
  • Any sensitive areas that you don’t want sprayed please inform the technician prior to spraying on arrival.
  • It is recommended to exit the property while spraying if convenient.
  • Removal of spider webs 5-10 days post treatment is recommended.
  • Washing windows post treatment as opposed to pre treatment is recommended.
